Hansary Laforest practices in criminal defense, with a specific focus on healthcare fraud and asset forfeiture matters. Hansary began his career as a New York prosecutor in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in 2011. During his service as an Assistant District Attorney, Hansary Laforest prosecuted a diverse array of cases all the way from arraignment to trial. Hansary has tried multiple cases to jury verdict. As a prosecutor, he routinely analyzed the legality of government searches of computers, mobile devices, cell phones, tablets, and even electronic data in vehicular black boxes.
After moving to Texas in 2014, Hansary soon opened his own practice, Laforest Law Firm, representing people in both criminal defense throughout the Dallas, Collin, Denton, and Tarrant Counties. Hansary has defended people facing both state and federal charges. He has also represented and achieved great results for people in divorce matters, child custody, child support, and grandparent intervention cases. Hansary is a proud member of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, where he currently serves as chairperson for the Solo & Small Firm Committee and the Wellness Committee. Hansary is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the J.L. Turner Associations. Hansary is also a past Associate member of the Higginbotham Inn of Court.
Hansary Laforest graduated with a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in New York in 2011. While in law school, he took coursework in internet law, telecommunications law, and mass media law. He also competed and coached the International Arbitration team. His performance as a competitor in the 2010 Vienna Arbitration competition earned him a Top Oralist Honorable Mention. Additionally, Hansary served as Vice President of the school’s Prisoner’s Right Advocates. During his service, he and other volunteers regularly visited Rikers Island jail facility and taught juveniles basic legal concepts. Upon graduating, he was honored for his service with the 2011 Student Leadership Award as well as the 2011 Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award.
